Hypoparathyroidism is a rare disease affecting less than 80,000 Americans. Started in 1994 by James Sanders, the Hypoparathyroidism Association has impacted the lives of many people with hypoparathyroidism. The Association has played a vital role in advancing knowledge and understanding of the disease, both for patients, their families and caregivers, and for the professional medical community. They have supported research efforts, held annual patient conferences featuring physicians from around the world, and maintain a strong network of physician advisors. They also have a quarterly newsletter that features patient stories, educational materials, and summaries of peer-reviewed research articles.
